What are you just absolutely terrific at? Is it Singing? Dancing? Painting? Writing? Sewing? Woodworking? Reading? Speaking? Whatever it is, somewhere along the line someone helped you get that way. Was it your Mom or Dad? An older (or younger) Brother or Sister? A special Aunt or Uncle? A Grandparent? A special Teacher? A Coach or Clergy Leader? Whoever it was, they spent their time and talents nurturing an interest and talent in you. Take a few minutes to reflect on the time they spent with you, then reach out to that special person and thank them. Tell them what a great gift they have given you and how it has enriched your life. If that person is no longer living, contact someone who knew them and express your appreciation to them. It will mean the world to them to hear from you and the impact they had on your life.
Then, look around your circle of friends and family, of peers and colleagues, and think about who you could encourage and support in similar fashion. Maybe it will be this same talent and you can pass it on to another person. Maybe it will be something entirely different. Perhaps your inspiration, time investment, and cheering them on will result in their becoming so accomplished in this skill that they will go on to do great things with it. At the very least, perhaps they will derive as much pleasure and satisfaction from it as you have. Then, sometime down the road when you least expect it, you may get a call or note expressing how much your sharing has meant to them. What a nice tribute to the person who was your inspiration and your mentor long before. Few things in life are more worthwhile or more satisfying than genuine sharing with others.
