When you hear a new idea, a new way of doing something, or get a new assignment at work, do you typically form an instant doubtful opinion? Are you likely to respond, “that’s ridiculous…that’ll never work”?
Or, are you more curious by nature? Are you inclined to react with interest, thinking, “hmm…I wonder how that might work’?
When you approach anything new with doubt and a judgmental attitude, dismissing it out of hand, the entire project will almost certainly be uncomfortable, unpleasant, and is almost assured not to go well. Joe Ann Fossland cautions us not to “awfulize” a new situation, drumming up every possible thing that could go wrong.
Remember the core belief that we get what we expect. There are more ways than one to do almost anything, so why not be open minded. Some of the best learning experiences occur in new situations. When you respond in a mindset of curiosity, it is entirely possible that everything about it may go right!
Depending on the scope and reach of the situation, it could revolutionize your business and may even change your life!
