Busy, Busy, Busy. Everybody’s Busy! The good news is that it is due, in part , to living at a time that offers more opportunity than ever before. The bad news is, many of us are so “busy” that there’s never time to pursue our dreams, to engage in our great passions…the things that bring us joy.
If you work 8 hours (at least in theory) and sleep 8 hours (to promote good health), what’s going on with the other 8 hours in the day? If you have an hour commute to work each way, and you need an hour in the morning for your “getting ready” routine, and an hour to do something about dinner, that leaves 4 hours a day for everything else that needs to be done. Is that amount of time combined with your days off, if you have any, enough time to live your dreams and pursue the things in life you’re truly passionate about?
Doesn’t some of that time have to be spent taking care of your personal needs appointment such as hair, nails, dentist, doctor as well as car wash, dry cleaning, pet care, house cleaning, yard care? And that’s all primarily just your needs and the care of your home. If you have children, this all multiplies exponentially with their activities, similar personal appointments, and your parental involvement at their school.
If you’re an entrepreneur and have wisely figured out to get to work very early, work with committed focus, and go home very early, you’re probably in good shape. You’ve created a nice block of time you can use as you wish. Bravo to you! Very smart planning!
If you work at a job or career endeavor with a prescribed schedule and required hours, you may need some creative planning. First, what can be delegated? Obviously, you have to show up for your own personal care appointments, but what other services might be available to clean your house, take care of your yard, and run errands? Is there a mobile pet groomer that can come to your house at your convenience, and might this be at the same time somebody else is there doing the yard and cleaning? Is there a way to shorten your work commute? Does your company have a branch nearer you home? Would it make any sense to consider moving closer to work?
Continue to think creatively about ways to free up your time. It is so much better to build your life around your passions, priorities, and dreams, rather than struggling to fit the truly important things in around the edges of a hectic life!
