This week’s focus is on how much we have, not how much we wish we had; not how much we’re striving for; not what we may be struggling to attain. It has been mentioned previously in this blog, there are millions of people the world over who would gladly trade places with us, though highly unlikely any of us would take the trade.
As a huge fan of Classic Rock & Roll, I heard Peter Noon (of 60’s Herman’s Hermits fame) make a surprising statement on his current show on XM Radio. Peter said that at the time he was growing up in England, most people were working by age 15 and only a very few went on to University. Wow! American culture is almost the direct opposite, with very few people working at 15, (which to us are still “kids”), and virtually anybody who truly wants to go to college is able to do so. Granted, many do so on scholarships and student loans, but the fact remains, the opportunity is there.
We live in a country that offers more opportunity than anywhere else on Earth! That is a profound and very humbling statement and we should not take that fact lightly. We can engage in almost any professional, vocational, or career endeavor we choose and we can do as much or as little as we want, wherever we want, whenever we want. Our success or failure is determined only by our work effort, our mindset, and our attitude. What would happen to our attitude and our approach to our work if we committed to spending just 10 minutes every morning this week reflecting on all that we have and all the opportunity around us? We would almost certainly come away with an Abundance Mentality, and remember, we become what we think about!
